Our Story

Origins & Formation

The Association of Non-Teaching Staff LBG–Ghana (ANTS-GH) is an officially recognized union for all non-teaching staff within the Ghana Education Service (GES). Popularly known by its acronym ANTS-GH, the union was founded out of a deep desire to protect and advance the rights, welfare, and dignity of non-teaching personnel across Ghana's educational institutions.

ANTS-GH members presentation

The idea for ANTS-GH was born during widespread dissatisfaction with the representation of non-teaching staff by the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU). This discontent came to a head during the May Day Celebrations in Kumasi in 2017, when TEWU's contingent of members felt neglected and ignored despite their participation. The frustration prompted Mr. Agyenkwa Kofi Dwommoh to propose the formation of a new union dedicated solely to non-teaching staff.

Mr. Dwommoh shared this vision with Mr. Daniel Mensah, who had harbored similar intentions. To bring the idea to fruition, Mr. Mensah consulted Mr. Kingsley Anyimadu of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers (CCT-GH), leading to longstanding collaborations with Mr. Franklin Otu, Mr. Emmanuel Obeng Bediako, and Mrs. Agnes Dufie Toku (who were teachers). Initially registered as the Association of Teachers and Non-Teaching Staff (ANTTS), the union later refined its focus exclusively to non-teaching personnel, settling on its name of the Association of Non-Teaching Staff.

Over years of consultations, financial sacrifice, and strategic planning, ANTS-GH secured its Labour Certificate, an introduction letter from the GES Director-General, and official registration with the Controller and Accountant-General's Department in May 2024. A pivotal force behind this success was its current president, Mr. Emmanuel Gyamfi Ameyaw (who has been recently enstooled as Nana Gyamanin Awere Baffour Ameyaw Gyamfi I, Chief of Atwima Nyinasinase) in the Ashanti region.

Nana Gyamanin Awere Baffour Ameyaw Gyamfi I personally provided the early finances needed to process the union's official documents—especially at the Labour Department—led critical consultations with stakeholders, and championed accountability measures that strengthened leadership effectiveness, transparency, and operational efficiency. His visionary leadership and unwavering commitment transformed ANTS-GH from an idea into a credible, nationally recognized union dedicated to protecting and advancing the welfare, rights, and professional growth of non-teaching personnel across Ghana's education sector.
